Melanie's Big Challenge

Melanie Murdoch is a Project Officer at Age Concern Cambridgeshire working on the Carry on Cooking Project.

This year Melanie is undertaking probably one of her greatest challenges by running in the first Virgin London Marathon.

In the run up to the big event in April, Melanie will be pounding the streets of the Fens plus a few warm up races to help her along the way, racing in Folkesworth and Stamford, not an easy task for someone who is used to flat landscape of the fens.

Melanie commented, "I didn’t think I could put all this effort in without raising some money and I have chosen to ask for sponsorship for two charities, one of course being Age Concern Cambridgeshire.  Since working for the organisation, I’ve learnt what excellent work and support we provide for older people and what a difference we make".

If you would like to support Melanie’s efforts and in turn help the charity, then please contact Melanie on 01354 696650 or 07769330136.

Alternatively, some of Melanie’s colleagues will be carrying sponsorship forms with additional forms available from Age Concern County Office, Chatteris.

When did you last read a really good book?

Have you heard about The Doorstep Service?

This amazing free Cambridgeshire Libraries service matches volunteers who love reading with book-lovers who struggle to use their local library because of health or mobility problems.

Perhaps you like to be terrified with a tale of horror, intrigued by a mystery, escape into a romance or ride the range with the cowboys – whatever sorts of books appeal to you: you can have a regular supply brought to your home each month.

Talking books on cassette or CD and large print editions are available as well as the usual standard print hardbacks and paperbacks.
